Polonnaruwa District is identified as one of the Leprosy medium risk districts in Sri Lanka consists of 7 Divisional Secretariat Divisions. Only Thamankaduwa, Dimbulagala and Medirigiriya DSD areas show continued transmission of both adult and child leprosy while Hingurakgoda, Lankapura, Welikanda and Elahera DSDs needs to interrupt the transmission of leprosy among adults.
