Kautara district is a high risk district of leprosy with child leprosy transmission interrupted only in Madurawala, Bulathsinhala, Agalawaththa and Walallawita DSDs. Among them Walallawita DSD has achieved the leprosy eliminated status. Annually about 200 new leprosy cases detect in Kaluthara district majority of them detected in Panadura to Beruwela costal belt of the district.
