Matara District is identified as one of the Leprosy medium risk district in Sri Lanka consists of 16 Divisional Secretariat Divisions. only Devinuwara, Matara four Gravete and Kotapola DSD areas shows continued transmission of both adult and child leprosy while all other DSDs needs to interrupt the transmission of leprosy among adults.
